In 1998, to provide formal education to the poor children of hilly areas of Uttarkashi, Swami Shukdevananda Giri started a school, in his Ashram premises, with 4 classrooms.
Unfortunately in August 2012, when flash floods hit Uttarkashi, the school got washed away completely. However Swamiji continued to run the school through a rented guest house for a couple of years.
In 2014 Kishinchand Chellaram Educational Trust pledged its support towards the construction of a new school. Accordingly by April-2017, a brand new school was ready with superior infrastructure, spacious classrooms and with features like Laboratory, Library, Computer Centre and an open auditorium on terrace. To acknowledge the patronage of Kishinchand Chellaram Educational Trust, the school has been re-named as “CHELLARAM SAS ACADEMY”
A school with a strong infra-structure and with all basic amenities is ready to cater to around 700 children from numerous villages of Uttarkashi District, who otherwise would have been deprived of their right to education.
